Kōwhai Heart Books is passionate about children's mental and emotional well-being. Our books are made to help children navigate and process difficult emotions, experiences and feelings.
We want children to know from an early age that they are allowed to feel their emotions, they are allowed to ask for help and they are allowed all the support they need. Our books are great tools and conversation starters for parents, caregivers, teachers or anyone that works with children.
Alongside our books, Kōwhai Heart Books has gone a step further and created a Wellbeing Workshop for children aged 5 - 13 years old using Arlo and the Orca.
We understand that emotions are a vital part of a child's growth and development. Our workshops are thoughtfully designed to assist children in identifying and processing three significant emotions: Anger, Sadness, and Fear. Through interactive games, engaging activities, and the heartwarming tale of Arlo and the Orca, we provide children with coping strategies and tools to navigate their emotions with courage.

Arlo and the Orca follows a young boy named Arlo on his journey to understanding grief. One stormy morning, he finds himself in the deep ocean, and in deep trouble! He is rescued by an Orca and by speaking about his feelings, Arlo and the Orca embark on a voyage to get safely through the storm and back to hope.

Kōwhai Heart Books is a New Zealand owned publishing company. We write, illustrate and publish our books all from home in Auckland! Although we are small, we are passionate about what we do and have some exciting announcements coming!
